A weekend to remember

One of our long-standing vendors in Manchester recently enjoyed a much-needed weekend away, thanks to the generosity of his customers. Together, they fundraised £200 to send Colin on a trip to Blackpool!

Colin, who sells Big Issue North outside HOME theatre and cinema, spent the weekend in the seaside town – a place that holds a special place in his heart. “I used to live there,” he recalls. “I worked as a kitchen porter at the Winter Gardens more than 20 years ago.”

Knowing how much Blackpool means to him, Colin’s regular customers and supporters have made it a tradition to help him visit each year. Last week, they surprised him at his pitch with a heartfelt card and £200 they had raised. By the weekend, Colin was booked for a weekend getaway!

Armed with a disposable camera, Colin captured special moments as he strolled along the seafront, visited the iconic Blackpool Tower, and enjoyed a night of karaoke, complete with a performance from a P!nk impersonator. The card from his customers stayed with him throughout, a constant reminder of their kindness.

Colin’s story reflects the experience of many Big Issue North vendors, for whom time off is a rare luxury. Acts of generosity like this make a real difference.

“Their support means everything,” says Colin. “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all my customers and regulars who donated for my Blackpool trip. I had a fantastic time – thank you, and I hope to see you all soon!”
