Music Q&A:
Two4Kay
The Manchester native has just released the visuals for his single 22 BadMind and has an impressive club following
How would you describe your sound?
I actually find it difficult to answer this question as I’m in and out of different tempos and styles every day in the studio. I guess if we’re talking about 22BadMind I would say it’s a light-hearted semi-bassy dancehall sound, with a sprinkle of pop.
What informs your music and songwriting?
Songwriting is a very broad art form in the sense of styles, layout and tempos. With me saying that, I actually don’t write songs so much. I kind of feel them out, sing bits in the air and piece bits together. Since I have my own lil studio in Salford, Manchester I have the comfort of time.
How have you evolved as an artist over the years?
I feel like over the years I’ve had a better understanding of songwriting at an industry level – understanding what’s required to make records that can potentially go all the way and just knowing the difference between sick songs and hit songs, if that makes sense.
What are you up to at the moment artistically?
I’m quietly producing for some dope artist in Manchester with my co-producer LiTek, but for myself I am stacked, man. So it’s just feeling out when’s best to drop the next one.
What’s on your rider?
Ciroc! Love a Ciroc me, and the usual stuff – waters and that.
Tell us your most embarrassing or surreal experience.
Ahh, I remember being at a football tournament we were walking off the pitch because our game was finished. There were other games happening around us, including a girls semi-final. The ball from their match travelled like 50 yards high in the air and out of all people it hit me! The shame was real.
What’s your worst lyric?
I don’t have one, lol.
